Analysis:
The Campbell men did not qualify for the NCAA Championships as a team in 2017 and instead, sent two men individually: Lawrence Kipkoech and Amon Kemboi, who went 1-2 in the Southeast Region and placed ninth and 29th, respectively, in Louisville.
The Fighting Camels look good to improve on their fifth-place team finish in the Southeast Region and not only qualify for NCAAs, but to place in the top 10 nationally. All-Americans Kipkoech and Kemboi will once again boast one of the strongest 1-2 punches in the nation; strong track campaigns saw Kipkoech place 18th in the 5K and 13th in the 10K at NCAAs, and Kemboi place fifth in the NCAA 5K final.
The team will be transformed into a national contender by the addition of spring transfer Ronald Cheserek via St. Leo University, where he won the DII South Region XC title and placed 53rd at NCAA DII XC last fall, plus true freshman Godwin Kimutai, who enters the NCAA with 14-flat 5K credentials. Kelvin Kirui (18th in Southeast Region) and Meshack Kipruto (24th in Southeast Region) will round out the top six for this fierce squad.
