The two newbies won NCAA indoor titles (Southerland in the 800m, Trouard in the 3000m) last year and will be in their first seasons as professional runners. Hassan Mead, Ben Blakenship, Nijel Amos, Sally Kipyego, Harun Abda, Tom Farrell, Francine Niyonsaba and Luke Puskedra all return.

Key Additions/Changes: Added Donavan Brazier; Lost Matthew Centrowitz

Centrowitz moved twice in 2018, first to Washington D.C. in the spring and then later to Seattle where he is a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Washington. In November, he announced he was no longer with the Nike Oregon Project, ending his time with the group he’s trained with for his entire professional career.

In October, NOP announced the addition of Brazier, a prodigious talent who will now get to train with fellow mid-distance stars Clayton Murphy and Craig Engels. Brazier did not compete outdoors in 2018 after a strong indoor season that included three performances under 1:45.50.

Internationally, the group still has Yomif Kejelcha, Sifan Hassan and Suguru Osako.

The powerful Bowerman Track Club added three more NCAA stars during the summer. Schweizer won three NCAA titles last year between indoors and outdoors, while Fraser was fourth in the 5000m. Both women ran huge 5000m personal bests in their first pro summer, a 15:02.44 for Schweizer and a 15:09.62 for Fraser.

As a whole, BTC is the strongest women’s group in the world with strong candidates to make the U.S. national team in every distance events and legitimate global medal threats from the 1500m through the marathon.

The men’s team isn’t quite as large but still boasts Evan Jager, Mo Ahmed, Lopez Lomong and Ryan Hill, among others. McGorty signed on to the group after his NCAA title in the 5000m. His college career was plagued by injuries, but he immediately showed his potential this summer. In Europe, he set personal bests in the 1500m (3:36.61) and 5000m (13:21.93).
