Joshua Cheptegei Breaks Road 10k World Record In Valencia
The 2019 world cross and world 10,000m champion added his first world record on Sunday in Spain.
A spectacular 2019 for Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei got even better on Sunday as the 23-year-old set the road 10k world record with his 26:38 in Valencia, Spain.
Cheptegei, who won the World Cross Country title in March before taking 10,000m gold at the World Championships in October, bettered the 26:44 previous record held by Leonard Komon since 2010. Cheptegei also eclipsed fellow Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo’s 26:41 from 2018, a time that didn’t count for record purposes due to a downhill course.
