AAU JO Games Day Two Recap: We Have Our First Record
A recap of the second day of action at the 2022 AAU Junior Olympic Games.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Day 2 of the AAU Junior Olympic Games on Sunday was more of the same at North Carolina A&T Stadium, with the culmination of the multi events to go along with the longer racewalk finals.
The end of the weekend featured its first AAU national record as well, with Illinois-based athlete Heather Durrant -- a World U20 Championship qualifier -- scooping up the 3,000m racewalk record (for more, read the summaries below).

Day 1 recap: Racewalkers take center stage
9yo Girls Triathlon: Audriana Carr, competing in her first track meet ever, won with a total of 908 points. She was particularly impressive in the 200m, going 30.80 seconds.
9yo Boys Triathlon: Cameron Cay of Topeka, Kansas became a national champion with 655 points. His best event of the day was the shot put with a throw of 25-08 to score 356 points. Cameron Turner of Virginia Beach, Virginia was the runner-up with 562 points and scored big in the high jump and shot put competitions. Georgia's Charles Furr earned the bronze with 508 points.
10yo Girls Triathlon: Brielle Hudson (Cornwall, N.Y.) was back at it, winning her second straight triathlon title with 1,341 points. She was just 62 points shy of setting a new national record. Ayla Cromedy (Abington, Pa.) was second with 1,310 points.
10yo Boys Triathlon: Aedyn Etheridge (Olathe, Kan.) and Jahmaikel McKenzie (Leander, Tex.) were the only boys today to score over 800 points. McKenzie finished with the gold medal with 850 points, while Etheridge was second with 813 points, respectively. Kaden King (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied up 757 points in the high jump, shot put and 400m.
11yo Boys Pentathlon: Jonathan Johnson (Fairburn, Ga.) was dominant overall, scoring a winning mark of 2,391 points. He racked up 799 of them in the 80mH after his time of 13.65. Legend White-Thomas second second with 2,260 points.
11yo Girls Pentathlon: It was a close competition in this event between Mylan Clay and Kennedy McCarter. Clay ended the day up on top with 2,543 points. She scored big in the 80mH when she clocked 13.27 to earn 952 points. McCarter was 27 points behind with 2,516 points. Michigan's Blake Ruffin earned the bronze with 2,237 cumulative points.
12yo Girls Pentathlon: Less than 60 points separated first from second, with Ava Fanchi (Tampa, Fla.) earning the overall title with 3,110 points. She was especially potent in the 80mH, where she ran the heat's fastest time in 12.59 seconds. Khloe Washington (Wichita Falls, Tex.) was secon dwith 3,053 points and Isabella Alvarez (Absecon, N.J.) was third with 3,043.
12yo Boys Pentathlon: Quincey McLean (Wichita, Tex.) struck gold by earning 2,509 points between the 80mH, long jump, shot put, high jump and 1,500m. Jonathan Greene (Austin, Tex.) scored 894 points in the 80mH to push his total to 2,361 points overall in the competition. Stanley Dinkins (Detroit, Mich.) finished for a close third with 2,342 points.
15-16yo Girls Heptathlon: Behind a win in the 200m and with runner-up performances in the 100mH, long jump and 800m, Yierra Flemmings (Cameron, Tex.) earned the AAU title with a point total of 4,581. Not too far behind her was Brianna Rivers (Houston, Tex.) with 4,507 points, including 916 points earned in the high jump -- she cleared an impressive 5-8.75.
15-16yo Boys Decathlon: Logan Anderson (Edinboro, Pa.) pocketed a big win with a final score of 5,865 points. He finished with the second-fastest 1,500m of any athlete, dropping a time of 4:47.57. Swayde Griffin (Lago Vista, Tex.) was second with 5,748 points.
17-18yo Women's Heptathlon: Carlee Rochford (New Hampton, Ia.) secured the title with a winning total of 4,735 points. She earned over 800 points in the 100mH and the high jump. Kessiah Bemis (Fayetteville, Ar.) grabbed the silver with 4,505 points and Josie Settle (Kelso, Wa.) was third with 4,375 points.
17-18yo Men's Decathlon: The final events are postponed until Monday.
13yo Girls 3,000m Racewalk: It was all Leandra Young's (St. Louis, Mo.) race from start to finish as she won her second consecutive AAU Junior Olympic Games racewalk title in 19:29.78. Wynter Green (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) was second in 20:01.87.
13yo Boys 3,000m Racewalk: Bryce Hammond of Sanford, Florida took out the race with a commanding lead, but last year's 12yo 1,500m champion, Isaiah Edwards (Leander, Tex.), proved determined enough to come away with his second-straight win. Edwards slowly closed the gap over the final 800m and surged to the lead before the bell lap. Edwards crossed the line first in 18:03.73, followed by Hammond in 18:15.98.
14yo Girls 3,000m Racewalk: Jade Jones took the lead from the gun and never looked back as the Dayton Wolverines Track Club racewalker (Oh.) won in commanding fashion in 20:10.75. In a tight race for second, Ompa-Andyl Chanel (Phenix City, Al.) earned the edge over Paula Davis (Bronx, N.Y.), clocking a time of 20:23.30 to Davis' 20:24.81.
14yo Boys 3,000m Racewalk: Milo Bullaro (Elgin, Ill.) began separating from the rest of the field over the last 1,200m en route to a national title in 16:35.75. Coming in behind of Bullaro was Ambler, Pennsylvania's Jack Clement with a runner-up time of 17:35.76.
15-16yo Girls 3,000m Racewalk: Chiasia Edward (Columbia, Mo.) won in dominating fashion. She crossed the finish line at 18:00.19, nearly two minutes ahead of Sophia Rankin (Charlottesville, Va.) who clocked a time of 20:14.03. Kasmere Booker (Hampton, Va.) was third with an official time of 21:01.69.
15-16yo Boys 3,000m Racewalk: It was a battle to the finish line between Brock Schweikert (Columbia, Mo.) and Judah Edwards. But it was Schweikert, the defending champion, who made a late surge to win in 16:53.82. Edwards (Leander, Tex.) was second in16:55.83 while Marc Batista (Windsor Mill, Md.) crossed the line as the third-best finisher in 19:38.38.
17-18yo Women's 3,000m Racewalk: Heather Durrant (Elgin, Ill.) had a record-breaking performance, securing a new AAU national record of 14:03.32. Her sister, Hannah Durrant, was second with a time of 15:55.84. Guailinex de Jesus (Jayuya, P.R.) finished third with a time of 16:12.32.
17-18yo Men's 3,000m Racewalk: Kaleb Schweikert (Columbia, Mo.) struck gold with a time of 16:58.42. Aiden Snyder (Clarksville, Tenn.) and Tyair Savage (Wilmington, Del.) finished second and third in 18:08.28 and 19:47.88 respectively.

On day two of the decathlon, he looked particularly strong in the 110mH (15.36) and 1,500m (4:47.57) as he maintained his Day 1 lead and finished with a winning score of 5,865.
