In a strange series of events Diego Estrada went from redshirting to focus on the US Olympic Trials to being told he could not compete for the country he was now a legal citizen. In a scramble to figure out how he could have a chance at the Olympics, Diego spoke with the Mexican Federation who opened their arms to Estrada and told him that if he hit the A standard he could represent Mexico in London. Diego ran 27:32, 13 seconds under the A standard for 10,000 meters, and punched his ticket to London. After seeing this interview the guys at Letsrun.com looked into the situation and found that Diego had been misinformed about his status at the Olympic Trials. An old IAAF rule state new citizens would have to wait a year to compete for their new country of citizenship, however this rule was updated in 2012 whiched waived the restriction if you have already been living in the country.
