From W&M to Team USA, Emily Stites loves cross country
It was an incredible year for William and Mary's Emily Stites. In high school, Stites had run 5:02.16 for 1600m and 10:37.79 for 3200m. One year later, she's run 15:45.31 for 5k, 34:15.49 for 10k, finished 26th at NCAA XC, won two national titles (USA XC and U.S. Junior 5k), finished seventh at BUPA Great Edinburgh, and 23rd at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Whoa. After such an incredible freshman year, Stites hopes to carry that momentum into this fall. We catchup with her summer training, the team dynamic at William and Mary, and ask the hard questions - For the rest of your life, if one song had to play every time you entered a room, what would it be?
