Galen Rupp on foot pain, praying during race
Galen Rupp won the Olympic bronze medal in the marathon at the Rio Games, but his 2017 was not so stellar leading up to his debut at the Boston Marathon. He dropped out of the Houston Half Marathon in January and said his foot was bothering him during a 61:59 half performance in Prague. However, a cortisone shot the week before Boston cured his ills and he was able to compete for a runner-up finish, one of the best American performances in history. Before Meb Keflezighi's win in 2014, no American had finished first or second since 1985.
