The TEN by Sound Running once again helped plenty of athletes—12, this time—earn the Olympic-qualifying standard in the 10,000m this year.
The TEN by Sound Running once again helped plenty of athletes—12, this time—earn the Olympic-qualifying standard in the 10,000m this year, and came to a dramatic conclusion with Tsigie Gebreselama and Grant Fisher winning the marquee races in style.
We also saw several records broken, headlined by Gebreselama's outstanding 29:48.34, which marked the ninth-fastest women's 10,000m in world history and the first sub-30:00 10,000m performance by a woman on U.S. soil.
In his 10,000m debut, Northern Arizona's Nico Young took down the NCAA men's record in 26:52.72 during a thrilling sprint to the finish against tonight's PARIS section winner, Fisher. Joining Young under the previous NCAA 10,000m record was New Mexico's Habtom Samuel, who took fifth in 26:53.84 and also locked in the standard. Sam Chelanga's former record of 27:08.49 stood since 2010.
Weini Kelati's 30:33.82 now sits at No. 6 all-time for U.S. women's 10,000m marks; she finished runner-up to Gebreselama.
