The performance, which was just a shade off his season-best 9.93 from May, was a reported new record at Franklin Field. A year ago, Montverde Academy's Issam Asinga clocked a then-record 10.05 (+1.6) seconds at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
Miller is currently the second-ranked American athlete at the 100m distance and fourth-best in the world for the 2024 season.
The first two rounds of the 100m at NBNO was Miller's first appearance on the track since his performance at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet on May 31 in Atlanta, Georgia, wherein Miller ran 20.54 in the 200m.
The performance by Miller led all performers in the semifinals and pushed him to the finals on Saturday, which takes place at 1:35 p.m. EST.
"The energy was great," Miller said. "I came across the line. I heard the crowd before I saw the time. I knew it was going to be something fast. Looking at that clock and knowing I broke that meet record, it felt crowd. I was thinking in my head, 'I'm ready for Trials.'
Miller opened his account on Friday in the first round of the 100m, clocking a time of 10.38 seconds.
The Florida standout will face Archbishop Carroll's Jake Odey-Jordan (10.41), American Heritage's Zamarii Sanders (10.44) and Washington Township's Ajani Dwyer (10.32).
Miller is entered at the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will begin on June 21 in Eugene, Oregon.
