Meet organizers have confirmed that Yared Nuguse will race the mile at the Last Chance National Qualifier at Boston University on Sunday, March 2, in what is expected to be a World Record attempt. The Last Chance National Qualifier at BU will be streamed LIVE on FloTrack.
Earlier today, the Coffee Club Podcast posted a video teasing that their teammate, Nuguse, will attempt to break the World Record again after Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran 3:45.14 at the World Indoor Tour meet in Lievin. Ingebrigtsen set that mark just five days after Nuguse ran 3:46.63 to set the world mark at the 2025 Millrose Games. Nuguse took .38 seconds off of Yomif Kejelcha's indoor mile record (2019).

Now, Nuguse will be attempting to retrieve the record that he held for such a short amount of time.
Meet organizers also confirmed that pacer lights will be implemented for the record attempt this weekend. Mario Garcia Romo is expected to pace the top section of the mile. Garcia Romo is teammates with Nuguse on the On Athletics Club roster. He has a 3:29.18 1,500m personal best.
Nuguse was the Olympic 1500m bronze medalist in Paris. He narrowly out-kicked Ingebrigtsen to land on the podium late. Recently, the two distance stars have been trading jabs halfway around the world.
Other mile entries include Olli Hoare, Vincent Ciattei, Jack Anstey, Festus Lagat and Henry Wynne. Most of the athletes in the mile will be chasing the World Standard of 3:50.00.
