The inaugural Grand Slam Track Meet is set to take place in Kingston, Jamaica, marking a historic moment in the sport. The league was founded by Michael Johnson with the goal of revolutionizing track and field. One key way he's achieving this is by emphasizing rivalries, which naturally attracts fans with compelling storylines and exciting matchups. Interestingly, the first Grand Slam Meet will take place in Kingston, making the USA vs. Jamaica rivalry one of the many electric storylines for the event.

Here’s a look at some of the top athletes and events to watch for:
Athletes and Events to Look Out For:
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone: McLaughlin-Levrone will compete in both the 400mH and the 400m. Having dominated the 400m hurdles for years—breaking her own world record twice last year—there’s little doubt she’ll bring that same level of excellence to the flat 400m. We also saw a glimpse of her prowess in the 400m during the gold medal relay at the Paris Games. Dalilah Muhammad is expected to be one of her top competitors in the 400mH.
Grant Fisher: Fisher enters the Grand Slam as the indoor world record holder for both the 3000m and 5000m, having set those records just seven days apart. He’s been in incredible form since the Olympics, and after breaking the 5000m world record in Boston, he took a break from indoor racing to prepare for the Grand Slam. His performance in Kingston will be highly anticipated as he kicks off his season.
Men's 100mH Showdown: The men’s 110m hurdles will be a highly anticipated race. Freddie Crittenden III is excited about Grand Slam Track and spoke about the fierce rivalry with one of his best friends, Daniel Roberts. Crittenden remarked, “That’s my dog…but on the track, we ain’t friends,” signaling a thrilling matchup between the racer (Crittenden) and challenger (Roberts). A late addition to the field as a challenger is Jamaica’s own Omar McLeod, the 2016 Olympic Champion and 2017 World Champion. McLeod, the first athlete to run the 110m hurdles in under 13 seconds and the 100m in under 10 seconds, will be racing in front of his home crowd, adding even more excitement to this event. Not to mention, he’ll also be competing in the 100m, making the race even more intriguing.
How Grand Slam Works:
The Grand Slam features 48 athletes who are signed to the league and committed to all four Grand Slam events. In addition, there are challengers who are outside the league but can compete in the slams (note that challengers are not required to participate in all four events). Each athlete competes in two races, meaning fans will get to see their favorite athletes showcase their versatility across multiple events. For example, Masai Russell will compete in both the 100m hurdles and the 100m dash, offering a unique spectacle for track fans.
Unlike traditional meets, where athletes typically focus on a single event, the Grand Slam format has them compete in multiple disciplines according to their groups (for example those in the “long sprints” group compete in the 200m and 400m), making the competition even more exciting. Additionally, the prize money at the Grand Slam exceeds that of most other track leagues, providing further motivation for athletes to perform at their best.
Prize Money Breakdown:
1st Place: $100,000
2nd Place: $50,000
3rd Place: $30,000
4th Place: $25,000
5th Place: $20,000
6th Place: $15,000
7th Place: $12,000
8th Place: $10,000
Athletes accumulate points based on their finishes at each Grand Slam meet. At the end of the season, the top male and female finishers, based on cumulative points, will be crowned “Racer of the Year.”
This inaugural event in Kingston is sure to be a thrilling spectacle, and track and field fans worldwide will be eagerly watching to see how the athletes perform and how the rivalries unfold.
