The 2025 BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational got off to a fast start with a full slate of men's races on Day 1, highlighted by a World Record in the 5,000m by 2024 Olympian Grant Fisher.

Grant Fisher has set a new World Record in the 5,000m at the 2025 BU Valentine Invitational, running 12:44.09. Fisher shattered the previous World Record of 12:49.60 set by Kenenisa Bekele in February of 2004.

The entry is in and the pace is set. Grant Fisher has asked that the BU Valentine Invitational men's 5,000m be paced at a 12:42 target time on Friday evening.

Grant Fisher set a new World Record in the 3,000m at the 2025 Millrose Games in 7:22.91. Defending Olympic 1500m champion Cole Hocker finished second (7:23.14) also beating the previous all-time mark of 7:23.81 set by Lamecha Girma (Ethiopia) in 2023.
