Stechschulte 6th on Day 8 at Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - On Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Abbie Stechschulte (Norton) closed out the heptathlon in sixth place. Aarik Wilson took ninth in the triple jump finals, and Kind Butler was 15th in the semifinals of the 200 meters.

Stechschulte (Norton) took sixth with a score of 5,855 in the heptathlon. She started the day with a career best jump of 6.02m (19-9) in the long jump and closed it with a career best 2:16.78 in the 800m. Her finish at the trials earns her a spot on Team USA at the 2012 Thorpe Cup in Germany, should she choose to compete.

Wilson jumped 16.28m (53-5) for ninth in the triple jump. The 2008 Olympian was passed on the final jump of the third round by Nkosinza Balumba, knocking him out of the top eight and keeping him from getting another three attempts.

Butler ran 21.05 into a headwind. The senior took fifth in his heat and 15th overall in his final race as a Hoosier. Butler will start his career as a professional with a trip to Europe in July.
