The second consecutive weekend of championship-level racing caused quite a bit of commotion throughout the Midwest.

Headlined by NC State's loss to Alabama in Chicago, IL, the first weekend of October answered a few questions, also generating a few unknowns as we draw closer to the collegiate postseason.

After winning her second race of the season, Alabama superstar Doris Lemngole maintained her place at the top of the FloTrack College XC Rankings presented by HOKA.

Lemngole made light work of the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite field, running 18:48 for a 16-second victory. Lemngole has won both of her races this fall by a combined margin of 41 seconds, and not even an All-American field could truly challenge her.

The only other top-10-ranked athlete who competed last weekend was Texas Tech's Juliet Cherubet, who finished runner-up at the Joe Piane Invitational. Cherubet was six seconds back of BYU's Lexy Halladay-Lowry,  the top overall finisher in South Bend, IN.

NAU's Karrie Baloga and Halladay-Lowry saw drastic movement compared to last week, with Baloga moving down ten spots to No. 17, and Halladay-Lowry soaring over 80 spots to No. 18.

Florida's Hilda Olemomoi, Georgetown's Chloe Scrimgeour, Oregon's Silan Ayyildiz, and Arkansas standout Sydney Thorvaldson filled out the top-5 after taking the weekend off from racing.

Over a month into the season, Lemngole is the only athlete in the top-5 who has raced this season.

NAU's returning All-American Elise Stearns held firm at No. 6, as New Mexico's Nicola Jansen, Gonzaga's Rosina Machu, and Villanova's Sadie Sigfstead came in at No. 7, No. 8, and No. 9. Texas Tech's Cherubet moved up a pair of spots as she rounds out the top-10 women.

Although there were minimal changes on the individual side of things, the team rankings saw some significant movement.

After taking care of business at the Joe Piane Invitational, the Stearns-less Lumberjacks kept their No. 1 ranking for another week. The 'Jacks held off a national contender in BYU, winning 52-65.

Speaking of the Cougars, their dazzling performance moved them all the way to No. 2, pushing Washington and Georgetown back to No. 3 and No. 4.

Alabama, who won the team title at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite over the NC State Wolfpack, moved past the defending champions en route to a No. 5 ranking.

NC State, Oregon, Providence, Utah, and Wisconsin all round out the top-10 teams up to this point.
