Olympians to be Recognized at Colorado Game
EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon's 2012 Olympians, including gold medalist Ashton Eaton, will be recognized during Saturday's Oregon-Colorado football game.
Highlighting those expected to attend is Eaton, who set the world record of 9,039 points in the decathlon during the 2012 Olympic Trials at Hayward Field. The five-time NCAA Champion for the Ducks from Bend, Ore., then went on to claim his first Olympic gold medal at the London Games.
Other Olympians with Oregon connections scheduled to appear include 2012 Oregon graduate Brianne Theisen. The seven-time NCAA Champion finished 11th in the heptathlon for Canada.
TrackTown USA favorite Andrew Wheating, a men's 1,500 meter semifinalist and five-time NCAA champion, will be present as will women's steeplechase finalist Bridget Franek and women's 800 meter semifinalist Geena Gall
Other Olympians scheduled to attend include Dathan Ritzenhein, who was 13th in the 10,000 meters for Team USA, Duck alumnae Cyrus Hostetler and Rachel Yurkovich in the javelin, and Ciaran O'Lianard, who competed in the men's 1,500 meters for Ireland.
Those competitors where eight of the 26 individuals with ties to the State of Oregon who competed in the London Olympics.
