LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams begin the 2012-13 indoor season in their only December event on Friday, Dec. 7, competing at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind.

The Cardinals begin action in the Gladstein Fieldhouse on the track at 5:30 p.m., with the field events commencing at 6 p.m. Live results can be found online at www.IUHoosiers.com.

Headlining the group of returnees is a pair of indoor All-Americans in Amashi Kendall and Michelle Theophille. Kendall earned second team All-America honors in the weight throw, while Theophille earned second-team honors in the high jump. A Whitby, Ontario, native, Theophille earned first-team honors in the discipline during the outdoor season after tying for sixth.

At the conference championships, throwers Khadija Abdullah and Kendall scored event titles, with Abdullah winning the shot put and Kendall placing first in the weight throw and second in the shot put. On the men’s side, Kevin Jackson took third in the pole vault at the conference championships. Now-sophomore Calvin Arsenault advanced to the 60m hurdles finals with a collegiate-best time and was two hundredths of a second short of tying the school record in the event.

Two sprinters open the meet for the Cardinals, as senior Margret Harris is set to compete in the 60m trials at 5:30 p.m. and freshman Michael Thompson will run the men’s section at 5:40 p.m. Harris had the third-fastest 60m time in the BIG EAST last season.

Louisville’s women’s throwers is the next event group scheduled to compete, with Hannah Baker, Patrice Gates, Caitlin Gilmore, Kendall and Rachel Serafin participating in the weight throw at 6 p.m.

The jumps group, which features six combined newcomers, begins competition later in the meet, with the women’s long jump starting at 7:30 p.m. Freshman Brittany Owens, who is one of four slated to compete in the women’s long jump, was the first female athlete in Iowa history to eclipse 20 feet in the long jump. At the same time, the men’s high jump is set to begin.

The Cardinals conclude the day with the men’s shot put, the women’s triple jump and the women’s high jump.
