LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams capped the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday evening with three wins on the final day of the meet in Lexington, Ky.

Of the Cardinals’ three wins inside Nutter Fieldhouse, one of them came from freshman Edwin Kibichiy. Making his collegiate debut on the track, he won the 3,000m event title with a BIG EAST qualifying mark, and his winning time of 8:17.54 ranks ninth in the country. Calvin Arsenault also scored a win on the men’s side, placing first in the 60m hurdles trials with a time of 8.06. Although he advanced to the finals in his season debut, he crashed on the second hurdle and was unable to recover and complete the race.

On the women’s side, senior Khadija Abdullah led a 1-2-4 finish in the shot put, winning the competition with a throw of 16.53m/54-2.75. Her season-best mark of 16.80m/55-1.50 ranks fourth-best nationally. Amashi-ali Kendall took runner-up, and newcomer Liberty Slinden achieved a BIG EAST qualifying mark to place fourth.

On the track, Louisville’s women’s team was highlighted by Jordan Diaz and Michelle Molodynia in the 800m. The duo finished seventh and eighth, respectively, and secured BIG EAST qualifying marks in the event.

Sophomore Andrew Stewart had a solid season opener, as he placed second in the mile. He improved upon his collegiate-best by nearly seven seconds, completing the race in 4:12.84 to earn a spot at the BIG EAST Championships.

The men’s sprints group, outside of Arsenault, had two others punch their tickets to the conference championships, as Marcellus Hobbs and Antoine Keys earned qualifying marks in the 200m.

In total, the Cardinals hit 18 BIG EAST qualifying marks Saturday.

Louisville returns to action in two weeks from Jan. 25-26, when the team splits squads and part heads to the IU Relays in Bloomington, Ind., and the other group returns to Lexington for the Rod McCravy Memorial.
