FloTrack Flashback: Nick Symmonds After 2007 Prefontaine Classic

It's happened countless times. Nick Symmonds sits in last place for the first 400 meters of the race, sneaks his way up through the pack on the back stretch, and with 100 to go, he comes charging through the finish line, arms in the air.

Nick Symmonds has been running fast for a while. He's the 3rd fastest American of all time in the event, and even at age 31, he's not showing any signs of slowing down. Along with his consistent speed, Symmonds has consistently been one to provide a good quote or two during his interviews. He's confident, outspoken, and not afraid to make a bold statement.

Even eight years ago, before his first US team, Symmonds had his eyes set on being a "dynasty runner".

Nick Symmonds:  “I have no excuse to run slow, I’m here to run fast and I’m here to keep running fast.”
Media: “Can you keep it up for another year?”
Nick Symmonds: "I’ll keep it up for 10 more years if I have to. That’s what my goal is, I wanna be remembered as the 800 dynasty guy....That's the dream. Do it smart, don't just come out here and be a flash in the pan, be a guy thats a force to be reckoned with until he's 35.”

Eight years later, Symmonds is still a force to be reckoned with. After somewhat of a slow start to his 2015 outdoor season, the veteran showed up when it counted. After making it through two preliminaries of the 800, Symmonds was crowned as the 2015 USA Outdoor 800m champion, winning in a time of 1:44.53, making his consecutive 5th World championship team. Does he have four more years in him? Can he still be a force to be reckoned with at age 35 like he set out to be eight years ago?

Just ask him.
