Corey Gallagher Lowers Beer Mile World Record to 4:54
FloTrack Beer Mile World Champion Corey Gallagher ran an unofficial beer mile world record on Saturday with a time of 4:54.4 at the University of Manitoba. If ratified by the experts at BeerMile.com, Gallagher’s performance will stand as the new beer mile world record over current world leader Lewis Kent, who lowered the time to 4:55.8 in August.
Watch the video submission by Gallagher, followed by a breakdown of the lap and beer-chugging splits:
Gallagher, a Canadian mail carrier, won the first ever FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships in Dec. 2014 with a winning time of 5:00.23. The performance was three seconds off of the then-world record of 4:57.0, run by James Nielsen in April 2014.
Since Nielsen’s record-breaking run, the beer mile has taken on new life, increasing in popularity and exposure. In the past year and a half, the beer mile world record has been lowered numerous times, first by Josh Harris (4:56.2), then by Kent (4:55.8), and now by Gallagher.
Gallagher will return to the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships on Dec. 1, 2015 in an attempt to defend his title in Austin, Texas.
