Today's March 14, Pi Day--an excuse for nerds everywhere to let their flags fly.

One of the best/worst things about being a track fan is the flood of numbers. So in honor of March 14, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028......, here are the best track and field stats that incorporate pi's first three digits (here are a million digits of pi).

They fall under two categories: achievements at the NCAA D1 Indoor meet that happened on March 14--the meet is always close to Pi Day and one day of the meet often falls on the day--and everything else.

The Crust--Best Pi Day NCAA Performances

All collegiate indoor records per the USTFCCCA here.

1. 3/14/2015: Omar McLeod of Arkansas set the collegiate 60 meter hurdles record in 7.45 seconds.

2. 3/14/2015: Texas A&M set the collegiate 4x400 relay record in 3:02.86

3. 3/14/2008: Arizona State's Ryan Whiting threw a shot put record of 21.73m (71-3.5); that record was tied by Ryan Crouser of Texas last month.

4. 3/14/2003 + 3/14/2008: LSU's Muna Lee set a collegiate 200m record of 22.49 in '03; Bianca Knight broke that record with a 22.40 in 2008 that still stands.

5. 3/14/2015: Leah O'Connor goes wire-to-wire with a 4:27.18 mile, the #2 all-time mark.

6. 3/14/2009: Jenny Simpson runs 8:42.03 in the 3K, still a collegiate record by six seconds.

7. 3/14/2015: Kendell Williams sets the collegiate pentathlon record with 4,678 points; Williams broke her own record by 25 points this past weekend.

The Filling--Best of the Rest

8. Allyson Felix's 2003 high school indoor 200m record--still never beaten at sea level--was run in 23.14 seconds.

9. Muir High School (CA) ran 3:14.86 for the high school boys 4x400 national record in 1996. That mark has only been surpassed three times in the two decades since--twice by Muir. Check out the trailer for the two-part series done on one of the key members of the 1996 team, Obea Moore:

10. Danny Everett's 1990 world record in the 300m was 31.48 seconds.

11. Kirani James ran 43.74 in the 400m--at the time the fastest mark since 2007 and the age-21 world record--on 7/3/14.

12. Teddy Tamagho jumped 17.92m (58-9.5) to break the triple jump world record on 3/14/2010.

13. The U.S. national team ran 3:45.90 on 3/14/1993 to set a still-standing (by six seconds!) women's sprint medley relay indoor world record (The event is so infrequently run that Rush Henrietta Sperry High School's time from New Balance Nationals on Pi Day 2015 is the third fastest in world history).
