The incredible journey of Steve Telaneus, the Marcus High School cross country and track coach who suffered a major heart attack in 2002, and had to re-learn simple motor skills - as well as how to win as a coach again.
Heart Of Marcus
Dec 23, 2015
Between 1989, two years after Coach Steve Telaneus took over the Marcus cross country program, and 2002 - the boys and girls have combined for 11 regional championships and 27 state appearances, finishing on the podium 10 times with three state championships. In 2002 at the district cross country meet, Coach T suffered a major heart attack and was considered dead for about 20 minutes. Without a heartbeat or respiration, his team surrounded him and joined hands in prayer. Less than a year later, Coach T was back at work after he wasn’t given much chance to live - let alone coach at Marcus. He had to learn a few things back on the job, including simple motor skills.
