Hardin Valley Academy's Garrett Hawkins held off Asheville's Michael Haskin on Aug. 31 at the Victor Ashe Park Fall Classic by two-hundredths of a second, winning in 15:45.73.

Hawkins, a high school senior from Tennessee who was 40th at the state cross country championships in 2023, got his first win of the season.

Haskin, a high school senior from North Carolina, followed in 15:45.75.
