In a dominant performance, Kate Murphy opened her indoor season with 9:14.12 for 3K at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games on Saturday morning. Murphy earned the victory in a solo effort as the rest of the field finished almost 30 seconds later. The time makes Murphy the No. 3 indoor performer in prep history behind Mary Cain (9:04.51) and Alexa Efraimson (9:00.16 on an oversized track), per Track and Field News.

We're a second late to this, but there's race video from this weekend's action-packed Silicon Valley Turkey Trot 5K. Drew Hunter ran 13:56, Grace Ping ran 16:36 (a 13-year-old age group world record), Morgan Pearson won the men's race, and Caroline Chepkoech won the women's race. 

This weekend in Japan, Chris Derrick took third in a 10K in 27:38. The time is a big deal--it's Derrick's first time under 28:00 since the 2012 Olympic Trials, it's only 7 seconds off his best time ever and it is the third fastest time by an American this year. Only Galen Rupp and Leonard Korir's times at the Olympics were faster. Watch the full race below.

The fastest half-miler the world has ever seen, David Rudisha, began his season once again with a victory Down Under at the IAAF World Challenge in Melbourne, this time in a World-leading 1:44.78. This is the fifth time Rudisha has won in Melbourne.
