Courtney Okolo and Jarrion Lawson claimed the coveted Bowerman Award Friday night in Orlando, Florida. The honor was given to both athletes based on their standout performances during the 2016 NCAA track season.

Bowerman Award: Blind Resumes Of Men's Finalists

Since 2009, The Bowerman Award has celebrated the best collegiate track and field athletes in the NCAA. The Bowerman is an honor given annually to one of three finalists who boast outstanding track seasons. The winner is chosen by a panel of voters made up of previous Bowerman winners, The Bowerman Advisory Board, media, and the fans. Ultimately, one male and one female athlete will be awarded the greatest honor given in the NCAA when The Bowerman is announced on Friday, Dec. 16, in Orlando, Florida.

Last month, we saw Oregon's Edward Cheserek lose to Villanova's Patrick Tiernan and Syracuse's Justyn Knight at the NCAA cross country championships. In doing so, Cheserek--who was coming off of three straight NCAA cross country titles--fell short of becoming the first athlete to win a fourth NCAA cross country title.

Bowerman Debate: Cheserek's Indoor Triple vs. Lawson's Outdoor Triple

Two of the 2016 Bowerman finalists pulled off notable triples this past season. Oregon's Edward Cheserek won the indoor 5,000m, distance medley relay, and 3,000m in March. Arkansas's Jarrion Lawson won the outdoor long jump, 100m, and 200m in June. The question is, which triple was more impressive? We decided to break down both feats and compare the two.

Clayton Murphy Wasn't Just Snubbed For The Bowerman, He Was All-Time Great

When the three men's Bowerman finalists were announced back in June, notably missing from the nominations was Akron's Clayton Murphy. Obviously, whenever you have to narrow a list of college track and field's stars to just three there will be deserving athletes who are not picked. However, I believe Clayton Murphy was not only a snubbed of a Bowerman nod but also arguably had one of the greatest college seasons ever for a mid-distance runner.

Three men were named finalists for the 2016 Bowerman Award, the USTFCCCA announced today. The three individuals eligible for the most prestigious award in collegiate track and field are Oregon's Edward Cheserek, Texas A&M's Donavan Brazier and Arkansas' Jarrion Lawson.

Women's Bowerman Award Narrows to Three Finalists

The distinguished award named after legendary Oregon coach Bill Bowerman is awarded to one male and one female track and field athlete each year to recognize outstanding achievement in the sport. This year's finalists include Texas senior Courtney Okolo, Georgia sophomore Keturah Orji and Mississippi sophomore Raven Saunders.
