There were two certainties heading into the women's distance medley relay at last weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships.
The 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships marked the first time in history that two siblings completed a sweep of the multi-events at the same NCAA meet. Georgia's Kendell Williams and her brother, Devon, each won their respective multi-event crowns--Kendell her fourth NCAA indoor title in the pentathlon and Devon his first NCAA indoor title in the heptathlon last weekend in College Station, Texas. It might be the first time ever that siblings won two events at NCAAs.

Back in December we wrote that despite Edward Cheserek's loss at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Oregon senior still had the opportunity to become the greatest collegiate distance athlete of all time by the end of his career.
Before this past weekend's NCAA DI Indoor Championships, we republished this article from 2014 that outlines the bizarre trajectory of collegiate record-holders in the indoor mile. Since 1974, no male athlete has set the NCAA record and won the NCAA title in the same year.

Oregon's women smoked the NCAA meet record for points, putting up 84. The old standard was Texas's 71, set 29 years ago, and the scary part is that they could have crushed it by even more. Deajah Stevens broke the 200m American record in the prelims, but was disqualified for stepping on her lane. Their NCAA record-breaking DMR only finished third.

New Mexico freshman Josh Kerr just dethroned Edward Cheserek in the NCAA mile, running 4:03.22 to win his first NCAA title.
Samford junior Karisa Nelson won the NCAA mile in 4:31.24 with a 30.8 final 200m.
Dani Jones of Colorado split 4:31 on the 1600m leg of the women's distance medley relay to lead the Buffaloes to an NCAA indoor title in College Station, Texas, on Friday night.
Edward Cheserek won his eighth NCAA indoor title--his 16th of his career--with a 13:41.20 5000m victory Friday night in College Station, Texas. Cheserek is now the only athlete in history to win 16 NCAA championships.
Karissa Schweizer can now call herself a two-time NCAA champion.
UPDATE: According to the official results, Deajah Stevens has been disqualified after running the fastest NCAA and American indoor 200m time ever. We'll have more on this shortly, but according to an official, Stevens ran over the line in her lane on the second to last turn.
