Brie Oakley ran 15:55.75 to break the national high school record for the indoor 5K at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Thursday night in New York. The UC-Berkeley commit, who hails from Grandview High School in Colorado, is the first female prep runner to finish in under 16 minutes indoors. The 2017 season marks the seventh year in a row that a girl has broken the 5K record at this event. She pulled away from the field with an opening mile of 5:04 and split 9:30 for 3K.
