Olympians Are "Shook" About Sydney McLaughlin's Return To The Short Hurdles

When Sydney McLaughlin won the Gatorade National Track & Field Athlete of the Year award this week, the world junior record holder told the press that she won't be returning to her specialty, the 400m hurdles, next year. Instead, she'll focus on the 100m hurdles and long jump during her freshman year at the University of Kentucky. This is an athlete who made the 2016 Olympic team as a 16-year-old, so needless to say, several Olympian short hurdlers are, well, "shook."

Deajah Stevens Wins U.S. 200 From Lane Nine, Ameer Webb Collects Title

Sacramento, Calif. -- Oregon junior Deajah Stevens made her second team of the weekend, winning the USATF 200 meter final out of the far outside lane. Stevens crushed the field in 22.30; Kimberlyn Duncan and Tori Bowie were second and third in 22.59 and 22.60. Stevens's teammate Ariana Washington was fourth and new collegiate record holder Kyra Jefferson was fifth. Earlier in the week, Stevens and Bowie made the U.S. team in the 100 meters, where Bowie won the final. Stevens was favored to win the NCAA title earlier this month but fell with 15 meters to go. Now she is headed to London in at least two events plus likely a relay.

Evan Jager Wins Sixth Straight Steeple, Andy Bayer Takes Fourth Fourth

Sacramento, Calif. -- Evan Jager won his sixth straight U.S. steeplechase title over Hillary Bor and Stanley Kebenei today. For the third straight year, Andy Bayer was a heartbreaking fourth place; he was also fourth in the 1500 meters at the 2012 Olympic Trials. Jager closed in 56 seconds after a pedestrian opening six laps.

Ajee' Wilson Wins U.S. 800 Title Over Charlene Lipsey And Brenda Martinez

Sacramento, Calif. -- Training partners Ajee' Wilson and Charlene Lipsey went one-two in the women's 800 meter final as Brenda Martinez made the world team in third place. Wilson won in 1:57, a ridiculous performance off of a 59-second first lap. Oregon junior Raevyn Rogers was a well-beaten fourth.

Dalilah Muhammad Wins Blazing Fast 400H Final As Sydney Breaks WJR

Dalilah Muhammad won one of the deepest 400 meter hurdle races in history at the U.S. championships. Her 52.64 winning time makes her the sixth fastest performer in the history of the event, while Shamier Little's 52.75 ranks No. 9 all-time. High school senior Sydney McLaughlin failed to make the team, but smashed her own world junior record in 53.82 seconds. It was her first time running under 54 seconds.

The Men's 800 Team At Worlds: Donavan Brazier, Isaiah Harris, Drew Windle

Donavan Brazier took control in the second lap and crushed the field from there, winning his first U.S. 800 meter title in 1:44.14. Penn State sophomore Isaiah Harris (1:44.53) and Brooks Beast Drew Windle (1:44.95) were second and third as Windle walked down Erik Sowinski in the final 30 meters.

Ryan Crouser Wins Shot Put With The Longest Throw In The World Since 2003

Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser won his second straight U.S. title in the men's shot put in dramatic fashion today, launching the shot 22.65 meters (74-3¾) on his final throw. Joe Kovacs had overtaken Crouser on his final throw, and Crouser responded with the the longest throw on the planet in the last 14 years. Crouser is now the seventh best performer in world history.

We'll keep a running list of the Team USA qualifiers for the IAAF World Championships this summer in this space. The top three finishers in each event at the USATF Outdoor Championships are eligible to represent Team USA if they have the world standard, indicated after each event in parentheses, though athletes have until July 23 to chase the qualifying mark.

Keni Harrison Wins First U.S. Title Ahead Of Ali, Manning, Harper-Nelson

Kendra Harrison won her first U.S. outdoor title less than a year after breaking the world record and less than two months after breaking her hand on a race. Nia Ali, Christina Manning, and Dawn Harper-Nelson filled out the U.S. team headed to worlds behind her. (Harrison has a bye to worlds as the 2016 Diamond League champion.)
