Checking in with James Carter after upset exit

Mar 31, 2012

At both the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, James Carter finished 4th in the 400 meter hurdles. In 2005 he won the silver medal at the Helsinki World Championships in the event and followed it up with a fourth place finish at the 2007 Osaka World Championships. Carter was a model of consistency at major championships and each season while over the 6 year span from 2002-2007, Carter's times ranked in the top three in the world four times. His PR of 47.43 ranks #13 all-time. However his career didn't end on a high note when in 2009 Carter ran his final race at the 2009 USA Outdoor Championships where he pulled up due to injury. Many may remember his interview (below) that showed his frustration with sponsors, drug cheats and injuries. We caught up with Carter at the Raleigh Relays to see whats been going on since retiring. If you follow him on twitter you know he's not afraid to speak his mind....something this sport needs more of from its athletes. We're glad to hear James is doing well and now working with youth in the sport!
