Emma Coburn out for USA's
After winning the NCAA title in the women's steeplechase, Emma Coburn appeared to be a lock for Team USA's roster heading to Moscow for the IAAF World Championship.
The latest addition to the New Balance team says she developed a lower back injury before racing in Eugene and paid the price.

She posted the following message on her Facebook page

"Sadly, I won't be able to compete at the 2013 USA Championships. Entering the NCAA, I had developed an injury in my lower back. After consultations with excellent doctors and my coaches, I decided to race. The two races further aggravated it and now for my safety and future, I have to stop for awhile.

Friends, family, teammates and fans of track and field who have chosen to cheer for me: the last
few years wouldn't have happened without you. You guys are the greatest!

The amazing people at New Balance knew, even before they offered me a contract, that I may not be able to run the USAs. John Evans and Tom Carleo have been incredibly patient and supportive. Each called me this week encouraging me to make the right decision for my health. Thank you to everyone at New Balance for making me feel so welcomed.

The timing is heartbreaking but I know I will be back stronger and faster than ever. I am so looking forward to putting on the New Balance jersey as soon as possible."

Coburn was one of eight runners with the IAAF "A" standard heading into this week. The next two best times by an American in the steeplechase are by Brooks' Jaime Cheever in 9:29.13 and Bridget Franek in 9:35.42. The injury to Coburn opens up a chance for someone like Florida State's Colleen Quigley or Nicole Bush, who also have the "A" standard and could potentially punch a ticket to Moscow.
