Indoor Champ Darien Moore Slapped With Four-Year Sanction For Steroid Use

Darien Moore's moment in the spotlight is over nearly as quickly as it started. The 25-year-old indoor U.S. shot put champion was served with a four-year suspension from the sport by USADA for testing positive for steroid use via an in-competition urine sample taken after his March title.

Day 2 Recap: Erik Sowinski And The Favorites Reign

2016 Olympians and mostly heavy favorites dominated on the final day of the 2017 USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the marquee distance races, favorites Ajee Wilson (600m), Charlene Lipsey (1000m), Clayton Murphy (1000m), Shelby Houlihan (two mile), and Ben Blankenship (mile) took home U.S. titles and $6,000 each. Lipsey wasn't an Olympian, but was the clear favorite based on her indoor season; Blankenship had had a mediocre indoor season and was coming off a loss in the two mile, but had by far the best career credentials in the field. (Excepting Leo Manzano, who finished last in 4:21.)

Sammy Watson Obliterates 1K National Record By Three Seconds At USAs

Sammy Watson capped her weekend at the USATF Indoor Championships in New Mexico by lowering her barely 24-hour old national high school record in the 1K from 2:43.18 to 2:40.72. The senior at Rush Henrietta High School in New York took fourth place in the championship final, which Charlene Lipsey won in 2:37.97.

Sammy Watson Breaks 1K National High School Record

Prep phenom Sammy Watson added a third national high school record to her resume tonight at the USATF Indoor Championships in New Mexico. She ran 2:43.18 for 1K to better Sarah Brown's (neé Bowman) standard of 2:43.4, set in 2005.

Gwen Berry Breaks Weight Throw World Record

Gwen Berry threw the 20-pound weight throw 25.6 meters (84 feet) to break Brittany Riley's decade-old world and American records in the event. Berry did so on her final throw at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Berry and Riley both went to Southern Illinois University and were coached by John Smith and Connie Price-Smith.

The Five Best Men's Matchups At U.S. Indoors

Though there are no team spots on the line, the U.S. indoor championships do offer a better payday than most domestic-only track meets, with $6,000 for first place, $4,000 for second, $2,500 for third, $1,500 for fourth, and $1,000 for fifth.
