As pack broke apart @KatiefMackey sat in a distance 7th place behind training partner Brie Felnagle, a position she held until the final 500 meters. With one of the fastest closing final laps of the field (65 secs), Mackey moved on the back stretch and then went from fourth to second in the final 100 meters. The effort resulted in an eight second PR and a time (15:23) that was just over 5 seconds off the World Championships A standard. Mackey continues to show steady improvement since her years at the University of Washington and gets flushed with emotion after her breakthrough.
