LIVE Interview with Chris Solinsky via Twitter Tomorrow!

Flotrack will host a live interview with American 10k Record Holder Chris Solinsky via Twitter tomorrow, Thursday July 21, 2011 at 11:00am CT. See below for details. The interview comes the day before one of the strongest 5000 meter races of the year which will take place at the Monaco Diamond League Athletics Meeting on Friday night, July 22.

This Season
So far this season Chris Solinsky has run 13:10 for 5000 meters back in March while in Melbourne, Australia. In April Solinsky set a 1500 meter PR at the 2011 Mt SAC Relays running 3:35 over the distance (race video). Solinsky's only attempt at the 10000 meters since his 10k American Record came at the Prefontaine Classic when he dropped out due to a hamstring issue. He bounced back in time for the US Championships where he finished second to Bernard Lagat and closed his last mile in 3:59, Lagat was 3:58 (race video).

The Monaco 5k
The 5k in Monaco marks the strongest field of Americans entered in one race as we will see four of the top 7 all-time step to the line.....Bernard Lagat (#1, 12:54); Chris Solinsky (#2, 12:55), Matt Tegenkamp (#5, 12:58); Galen Rupp (#7, 13:06). Of the twenty competitors entered in the field, twelve have PRs under 13:00. Solinsky ranks #8 in the field based on PRs. The race will also feature the three top 5k runners in the world in 2011 with Imane Merga (12:54), Isiah Koech (12:54) and Vincent Chepkok (12:55). All three athletes hit this marks at the Rome Diamond League back on May 26, 2011.

Solinsky in 2010
Based on time, Solinsky ended the 2010 season ranked #9 in the world at 12:55.53. The mark was achieved at the 2010 Stockholm Diamond League 5k, a race where Solinsky changed for the win over the last 600 meters (post race interview). During that season Solinsky ran under 13 minutes on three different occasions, including a 12:56.66 at Oslo in the same race where Bernard Lagat set the American 5k Record of 12:54.12. Only three other athletes matched Solinsky's consistency under the 13 minute barrier in 2010; Vincent Chepkok (4), Imane Merga (3) and Tariku Bekele (3). Only Merga and Solinsky had three marks at 5k under 12:57.
