Division III T&F Women’s Scholar Team of the Year Plaudits Won by Double NCAA Champ UW-Oshkosh

In addition, 111 squads were named All-Academic teams for the 2011 track & field seasons

August 10, 2011

NEW ORLEANS – The women’s track & field teams at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh was named Wednesday as the  Scholar Team of the Year in Division III for both the indoor and outdoor 2011 seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The squad earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing team with at least a 3.10-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship. In addition, the USTFCCCA announced 111 teams as All-Academic teams for the track & field seasons.

Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year – UW Oshkosh

UW Oshkosh claimed both indoor and outdoor women’s NCAA Division III track & field crowns in the same year for the third time in the school’s history in 2011. The Titans squeaked out a 1½-point margin over Wartburg at the indoor championships this March. In May, Oshkosh came back to win four individual titles and claimed the outdoor crown, again from Wartburg, by 21 points, 80-59.

As a team, Oshkosh cards a 3.12 cumulative GPA through the spring 2011 semester. Ten Titans – Chelsea Benitz, Alexia Child, Camille Davis, McKenzie Kelly, Samantha Loew, Kayla Oberstadt, Cassie Petersen, Claire Pohlman, Breanna Strupp, and Sue Trzebiatowski – last week earned individual All-Academic nods. Strupp won the NCAA outdoor discus title in 2011 while Trzebiatowski was the nation’s runner-up in the hammer throw.
