DAEGU, South Korea - American 110-meter hurdler David Oliver was elected to the IAAF Athletes’ Commission, the organization announced Friday.

USA Track & Field nominated Oliver for the honor and he is one of six athletes that will serve a four-year term on the Commission.  In order to be eligible, candidates had to be over 18 years old and must have competed in the World Championships in 2007, 2009 or 2011 or in the 2008 Olympic Games.

“I welcome and embrace this tremendous honor and responsibility,” said Oliver.  “I am confident that I can be a competent and influential member of the Athletes’ Commission representing my peers in an unbiased, professional and respectful manner.”

The IAAF made the announcement as part of the 2011 World Championships, which continue through the weekend in Daegu, South Korea. Oliver competed in the World Championships in the 110m hurdles and finished fourth in 13.44 seconds.

Also selected to the IAAF Athletes’ Commission included Sweden’s Stefan Holm (MHJ), Poland’s Monika Pyrek (WPV), Japan’s Koji Murofushi (MHT), Spain’s Manuel Martinez (MSP) and Benjamin Limo (M5000).
