LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up the weekend’s action with two additional BIG EAST indoor qualifying marks on Saturday afternoon at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and concluded action at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va.

Running in the Ryan Shay 3,000m race, Luke Lovelace earned his second BIG EAST qualifying mark by posting a time of 8:10.70 in the event for an 11th-place finish. He shaved 28 seconds off his season best of 8:38.05 and now ranks fifth in the league in the 3,000m. Lovelace gives the Cardinal men 22 qualifying marks as they head to the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in a couple of weeks.

Michelle Molodynia gave Louisville its other league qualifying mark, clocking a time of 2:15.96 in the 800m run in South Bend. A freshman, Molodynia has achieved the qualifying standard in three different events – 800m, 1,000m and the mile – and is one of three Cardinal women to qualify in three different track events. The Louisville women, behind 10 qualifying marks apiece in the mid-distance/distance and jumps groups, own 30 qualifying marks.

Also at the event, Madie Davidson posted an impressive collegiate-best time of 9:39.23 in the 3,000m.

In Blacksburg, Michelle Theophille matched her personal-best in the high jump after clearing 1.79m/5-10.50, tying for third in the event. The mark continues to hold as second best in the conference and ties for 16th-best nationally.

Charachesicia Lockhart and Malina Simmers had strong performances for the jumps group as well, placing second and third, respectively, in the triple jump while also registering personal bests. Lockhart’s mark of 12.57m/41-3 is the No. 1 distance in the BIG EAST and ties for No. 22 nationally. At the conference level, Simmers is tied for the second-best mark – 12.52m/41-1 – and is a close 25th nationally.

On the men’s side, Brad Vivace put together a remarkable showing in the shot put, improving his personal best by nearly a foot. Vivace, who placed fourth in the event with a toss of 16.94m/55-7, gives Louisville the five and six spots (teammate Sam Bombaugh is sixth) in the BIG EAST in the event. Amashi-ali Kendall, who placed fourth on the women’s side in the shot put, recorded a personal-best as well (15.58m/51-1.50) and sits No. 2 in the BIG EAST behind teammate and league-leader Khadija Abdullah.

The Cardinals are idle for two weeks and return to action on Feb. 18-19 at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The two-day event is set to take place at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York, N.Y.
