Haverford Tapped as Scholar Team of the Year for Second-Straight Year

In addition, 131 teams receive All-Academic status

NEW ORLEANS – The Fords of Haverford are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men’s Scholar Team of the Year for the 2011 cross country season as announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Haverford was the national runner-up in the sport this past fall.

               

Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

Cross Country Men’s Scholar Team of the Year – Haverford

 

Haverford has tallied a cumulative team GPA of 3.48 through the fall 2011 semester. The team finished second at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this fall.

 

Squad members Eric Arnold, Peter Kissin, Ivo Milic-Strkalj, Tim Schoch, and Andrew Sturner earned individual All-Academic honors last week.

 

The Fords this past fall also won the Mideast region by 77 points over Dickinson, 52-129. Haverford also won the Centennial Conference title for the second-straight year.

131 Teams Earn All-Academic Status

 

In addition to the Scholar Team of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced those men’s teams who earned 2011 Division III All-Academic Cross Country status.

 

A total of 131 institutions represent 34 conferences that compose the group. The NESCAC led all conferences with ten institutions on the All-Academic list. The MIAC followed with nine.

 

Centre College leads the nation with a 3.71 cumulative team GPA through the 2011 fall semester. Cal Tech follows at 3.65.

 

 

Seven of the top ten finishing teams at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 32 teams that participated in the national final, 21 of those earned All-Academic status.

 

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.
