Four Cavaliers Named to Cross Country All-ACC Academic Teams
Corrigan, Stevens, Strehler named to womenÂ’s team; Wilson selected to menÂ’s squad
GREENSBORO, N.C.—Four members of the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams have been honored with All-ACC Academic Team nods, the conference announced Tuesday (Feb. 21). Senior
Anna Corrigan (Burke, Va.), junior
Barbara Strehler (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore
Kathleen Stevens (Blacksburg, Va.) have been named to the womenÂ’s team, while junior
David Wilson (Brookline, Mass.) has been selected to the menÂ’s squad.
Corrigan, who was named as a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree last week, earned All-Southeast Region recognition after finishing 10th and helping UVa capture their third NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in four years. The 2011 CoSIDA Academic
All-District III Track and Field and Cross Country First Team member won the season-opening Lou Onesty Open and scored for the Cavaliers as they finished tied for third at the ACC Championships and 20th at the national meet.
Strehler, who earned her second straight All-ACC Academic nod, took home All-ACC honors with a 14th-place finish at the conference meet. She was one of 11 women who earned both All-ACC and All-ACC Academic citations.
Stevens crossed the line third for the Cavaliers at the ACC meet, placing 21st overall. She was also a member of the scoring five at both the regional and national meets, finishing 35th and 167th, respectively.
Wilson scored for Virginia at the ACC Championships, placing 55th overall and helping the team finish sixth. He also scored at the NCAA Southeast Regional, crossing the line 68th overall as the Cavaliers finished ninth.
Florida StateÂ’s Hannah Brooks and Michael Fout were selected as the 2011 ACC Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
