Big Day for IU as Records Fall at Alex Wilson Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana track and field had a stellar day at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame on Saturday. Danny Stockberger and the menÂ’s 4x400m relay each broke school records, and DeÂ’Sean Turner broke four minutes for the first time in his career in the mile. The menÂ’s

In the 4x400m relay, the Hoosiers clocked a time of 3:07.84 to break the IU record by 1.75 seconds. The time moves Indiana into 12th on the NCAA Division I list, which puts them on the bubble for entry to next weekendÂ’s NCAA Indoor Meet. The NCAA will announce the athletes that get into the meet on Monday.

The previous record was set in 2005 by a group that included two-time Olympic-medalist quarter miler David Neville. Indiana got four great carries on the relay, including a leadoff split of 47.2 from Chris Vaughn. Vaughn handed off to Nick Stoner, who clocked a career-best split of 47.7 before handing the baton to Ryan Hindes. Hindes ran a split of 48.0 to set up Kind ButlerÂ’s anchor leg. ButlerÂ’s blazing fast split of 44.7 brought home the record for the Hoosiers.

Turner ran 3:59.81, becoming the sixth IU runner and the sixth runner born in the state of Indiana to break the four-minute barrier. His time is the sixth-fastest indoor mile in IU lore.

Stockberger is the new IU indoor 800m record holder with a time of 1:49.05. He shattered the IU record by .53 seconds and ran 1.36 seconds faster than his previous career mark. He breaks a 24 year-old record set by Keith Allen in 1988.

Kyla Buckley had a big career best to win the shot put as well. 16.12m (52-10.75). The PR of three feet and five inches moves her to fifth all-time at IU.

Kelsey Duerksen ran a career-best time of 4:42.22 in the mile, moving into sixth on the IU all-time list.
