LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
The University of Louisville track and field teams return to action for their second meet of the outdoor season, traveling south to the Alabama Relays at the Sam Bailey Track & Field
Complex on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., this weekend.
The two-day event begins Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. and continues on Saturday, March, 24, at noon. Along with Louisville and event-host Alabama, Southern Miss, Cincinnati
and Xavier will have student-athletes participating in the meet. Live results will be available at www.DeltaTiming.com.
The field athletes begin both days for the Cardinals, starting with the men’s and women’s hammer throw on Friday, following by the men’s pole vault and long jump events.
After those opening events, Chinwe Okoro, Khadija Abdullah and Amashi Kendall will compete in the women’s discus at 4 p.m. All three have qualified for the league championships
in the event.
Michelle Theophille, Megan Schubert and Maggie Gilbertson open the women’s jumping events with the high jump at 5:30 p.m. Charachesicia Lockhart and Kim Cardeiro are slated
to compete in the next women’s jumping event, taking part in the long jump at 6 p.m.
Megan Klein makes her collegiate track debut toward the end of the day, as she is set to run in the 3,000m steeplechase at 6:40 p.m.
On the men’s side, Calvin Arsenault and Jordon Frazier are slated to run in the 400m hurdles, while Marcellus Hobbs and Emmanuel Matadi will take part in the 400m at 6:25
p.m. Mattias Wolter, Gordon Dooley and Luke Lovelace conclude day one, with the 5,000m run at 8:05 p.m. Wolter won the race at last year’s Alabama Relays.
On Saturday, Malina Simmers (triple jump) and Jenna Wargo (javelin) open the day at 2 and 2:30 p.m., respectively, in their respective events. Abdullah, Kendall and Okoro
resume action for the Cardinals nearly three hours later at 5:15 p.m. in the shot put.
Michael Edwards and Taylor Caldwell then participate in the high jump at 5:45 p.m. Edwards was the BIG EAST indoor runner-up in the event and won the outdoor title at the
conference championships last season.
The sprints group takes over at 6:10 p.m., with athletes participating in three events. The men’s 4x100m relay team competes at the aforementioned time, followed by Gabrielle
Jackson in the 100m hurdles and Calvin Arsenault in the 110m hurdles.
Louisville concludes the meet with the men’s and women’s 1,500m races and three-straight relay events.
The Cardinals posted 21 BIG EAST outdoor qualifying marks last week at the Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
