LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams finished the Alabama Relays with a strong showing, winning three events and placing in the top three nine times on Saturday evening at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Sophomore Jenna Wargo was one of two throwers to win their respective events on Saturday. She recorded a collegiate-best 45.02m/147-8 in the javelin to take first, eight feet better than her closest competitor. Brad Vivace was the second Cardinal to win a throwing event, as he heaved the shot put 15.94m/52-3.75 for the victory.

Louisville also received strong field performances on the women’s side from Malina Simmers, who was fifth in the triple jump, and Amashi Kendall, who placed fourth in the shot put. On the men’s side, Taylor Caldwell leapt to a fourth-place showing in the men’s high jump, and Sam Bombaugh and Isaac Bowling took third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.

The final victory of the day came from the women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Gabrielle Jackson, Ahlivia Spencer, Margret Harris and Hadassah Bruno. The quartet clocked a time of 3:44.69, the second fastest outdoor time in school history for the victory. Four of the top five times in school history have been set under the watch of assistant coach Terry Winston, who took over the sprints program in 2010.

Also on the track, Michelle Molodynia had a fourth-place showing in the 800m, and Andrew Stewart took fifth in the men’s section in the same event. Megan Klein and Ryan Eaton earned top-five finishes in their 1,500m races, placing second and third respectively.

The men’s distance medley relay cracked the school’s top-five list, completing the race in 10:15.10, to take second in the Louisville’s record book in the event.

The Cardinals finished the day with seven BIG EAST qualifying marks.

Louisville returns to action for the Tennessee Challenge, a one-day event on April 7, in Knoxville, Tenn.
