Ehrman, Kimoto and Turner Are Big Ten Athletes of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana track and field started off the outdoor season well at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge. After their efforts in the season opener, IndianaÂ’s Breanne Ehrman, Emma Kimoto and DeÂ’Sean Turner have been named Big Ten Athletes of the Week, the conference announced. Ehrman and Turner earned Track Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts in the 3,000m steeplechase, while Kimoto took Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the high jump.

Indiana track and field director and head coach Ron Helmer said that he was pleased with the teamÂ’s overall performance and likes where they are at early in the outdoor campaign.

“We had a good start to the season in Mississippi,” said Helmer. “Our student-athletes went into the meet and took care of business. It was good to see the team transition into the outdoor season well, and we need to continue to grow and get better to reach our goals as a team.”

The Hoosiers showed that the steeplechase should again be a dominant event this season. In the womenÂ’s race, IU took first and second and in the menÂ’s race, IU went 1-2-3. Breanne Ehrman won in a facility and meet record time of 10:21.38, a little more than two seconds off her career best. Ehrman is second on the Division I list this season.

The meet and facility record went down in the menÂ’s race as well, as DeÂ’Sean Turner won the menÂ’s steeple in 8:52.58, beating teammate Adrien Dannemiller by just .03 (8:52.58). Turner leads the nation this season in the steeplechase.

Emma Kimoto took the win in the womenÂ’s high jump, clearing 1.76m (5-9.25). Kimoto is within two centimeters of her career best.

This weekend the Hoosiers head to the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. For complete coverage of all things IU track and field, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
