Butler, Ehrman Lead IU on Final Day of Polytan

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana track and field team concluded the Polytan Invitational on Sunday, capping a weekend that saw current Hoosiers post six marks that rank among the nationÂ’s top 10 and three former Hoosiers post marks that will qualify them for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
 
Breanne Ehrman took the womenÂ’s steeplechase by more than 23 seconds. She clocked a time of 10:04.25, which ranks sixth in Division I this season and leads the Big Ten by seven seconds.  The time is also 11 seconds better than Olympic Trials “B” standard.
 
Kind Butler ran a time of 46.19 to win the menÂ’s 400 meters. His time is the sixth fastest in IU history and is 20th in Division I this season. Chris Vaughn took third with a time of 47.13, which ranks ninth in IU history.
 
Aireonna Bailey clocked a time of 11.71 seconds to take the win in the 100 meters. She is within .01 of her career best time and ranks fifth in the Big Ten this season.
 
IU took the win in the menÂ’s 4x400m relay as well, clocking a time of 3:11.55. The quartet of Nick Stoner, Chris Vaughn, Tyler Sult and Ryan Hindes won by more than three seconds, and got splits of 46.4 from Vaughn and 47.9 from Sult.
 
In the women’s shot put, former IU standout Tiffany Howard won with a heave of 17.25m (56-7.25), surpassing the Olympic Trials “B” standard by nearly three feet.
 
At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Saturday, former Hoosiers Molly Beckwith and Aarik Wilson posted Olympic Trials “A” Standard performances. Beckwith dominated the field in the Elite Women’s 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:00.34 to win by nearly a full second. Beckwith ranks number two on the world list and is the top American.


Wilson won the Elite MenÂ’s Triple Jump with a hop, skip and jump of 17.07m (56-0). The performance ranks eighth in the world this season and is the best by an American.
