Beckwith Falls Just Short of Trip to London
EUGENE, Ore. - Molly Beckwith moved from second to fourth in the final 20 meters in the 800m final, falling just outside a qualifying spot for the London Olympics. Sarah Pease advanced to the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase on the day as well.
Beckwith clocked a time of 1:59.68 for fourth, finishing just .22 out of the third spot on the plane to London. The Worthington, Ohio native was in second place with 20 meters to go, but was unable to hold off Geena Gall and Alice Schmidt before the line.
Pease ran a lifetime best 9:52.43 to advance to FridayÂ’s final in the womenÂ’s 3,000m steeplechase. Pease took seventh in her heat and 13th out of the two heats, taking one of 14 spots in the finals.
DeÂ’Sean Turner did not advance to the final in the menÂ’s steeplechase, clocking a time of 8:47.15 for 19th place in the prelims.
