Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone delivered a statement performance at Grand Slam Kingston, winning the 400m in 50.32 to complete a sweep of the Women’s Long Hurdles Race Group. As the first Racer signed to Grand Slam Track, she was the final Slam Champion crowned at the series’ opening stop.
A late addition to the Grand Slam Kingston lineup, Tia Jones made the most of her opportunity, winning the 100m hurdles and finishing 6th in the open 100m. Her strong showing earned her 2nd place overall in the Women’s Short Hurdles Race Group.
Brazil’s Alison dos Santos capped off a dominant weekend by winning the men’s 400m flat in 45.52, edging out Chris Robinson by just .02 seconds. The two-time Olympic bronze medalist also claimed victory in the 400m hurdles on Friday night.
Reigning world champion Marco Arop backed up his 2023 World title with a strong performance at Grand Slam Kingston, winning the men’s 800m and finishing 2nd overall in the points standings. I caught up with him post-race to talk about the win and his momentum this season. He won the race in 1:45.13
France’s Sasha Zhoya sealed the Men’s Short Hurdles Race Group title with a smooth 10.55 win in the 100m flat. After finishing runner-up in the 110m hurdles the night before, Zhoya’s sprint victory secured his spot as Slam Champion.
Olympic 100m bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden swept the women’s short sprints to claim the Slam Champion title. She closed strong in the 200m, edging out Jenna Prandini in the final meters to take the win in 23.46.
